The body shape and feel of it are what I care about, and thickness when upgrading just so I don't get a trem block that is poking out the back, but that is just a matter of measuring the included block and taking care when purchasing. But none of them matter to me beyond that. It might be too heavy, too light, too soft, or just fine. Unless the guitar has a finish that I can see the wood grain on, I don't consider any wood used on a solid body electric to be interesting. I was just wanting to comment on the hardware on Squiers of all years I have tried being better than the cheapest strat copies or DIY kits, and the wood being perfectly fine if you like the weight. Like if there was a recent limited run of squiers with exotic wood or made in japan, it would probably be worth looking for those, at least for rarity reasons, but to my knowledge nothing really extraordinary happened with squiers in the last ~20 years that would make a squier worth researching.ĭefinitely, especially after purchase. But I feel they stayed roughly within their price/quality niche for the age regardless, and within those variations there is nothing interesting I would expect to find on any modern squier compared to any other modern squier. Sure they could have used different wood, different thickness, different hardware, moved production.
But they're still cheap mass produced guitars, and with all the variables you mentioned I don't think they ever had anything really interesting going on in production that would make spending time on researching a specific guitar that you already bought used worth it. Yup I agree, I think squiers are good for the price and are certainly better than a lot of even cheaper guitars.
